There is something fanciful about mobiles. They snag our imaginations and spirits. I'm a huge fan of Alexander Calder. Of his whimsical mobiles it was said, "His mobiles occupy one's mind without constraining it and guide one's thoughts along blissful pathways." -Patrick Waldberg. That's my aim.
My mobiles are constructed using papers imported from Japan, Thailand and Nepal or paper that I have handmade from Abaca fiber. I use artists' acrylic gloss medium and varnish so that the blossoms or leaves are durable, washable and archival. Each leaf or blossom is handcut and assembled, taking at 5 - 10 minutes per leaf and 1 - 2 hours per blossom. I often use Swarovski crystal in my mobiles so that they send dashes of light as they move. Each mobile moves gracefully with the slightest breeze - when the furnace comes on, or you walk by.
